Not reading any works of Shakespeare is a shame for us. I am not interested in literature so much, nevertheless that we don’t read the works of a master like Shakespeare who is well-known writer is very bad for us, English language teachers.

We can find all traits, emotions, thoughts, ambition, and desires in his works together. He thought the whole world as a stage. One of the most precious works is Romeo and Juliet and I didn’t read even this. His contributions to literature are not denied.  When his contribution is taken into account, people wants to say his relationship with his wife was fortunately bad J. We must start from somewhere to deserve him.

As a result, we should have information about each culture especially English and the one which reflect the culture is literature.

Renaissance! What a big movement! People began to realize everything. I think that what if it was not made real, how was the world? I mean would we live as the same as Middle Ages?

People especially writers faced completely different areas. They created their Works with new movement, humanism. In fact people was so innovative, the church blocked them. They tried to turn spoken language into written language, because literature was oral in the previous times. It had a big role to use English as a written language. I think that times was so important from the point of including a master like Shakespeare J

So, Renaissance was a turning point for the future, both people and their ideas about the world developed. That time is the basis of doing something fort he humanity!  

In old times, people are very different from now. They blindly believed in everything especially church. The church was so strong in both political and religion areas. It had the rights to curse, ban religious actions, and sell a land from heaven. People accepted them without question. This effected the society of that period very much.

With this reasons, literature especially poetry was not very substantial. The aim of poetry was to immortalize the heroes. How bad! Does it mean that a writer of literature may have not been interested in literature because of loving it? Authors should enjoy literature, and change our point of view.

The ones which include a message are  great but I think literature does not need to have an aim. Literature is for literature. Poetry is for poetry. Literature is for  feelings!

Beowulf is one of the best known works that reflect its period. When we take a look at Beowulf, we can see war culture, violence, and important role of hero in society. I cannot tell much about it, because I have no much information, but I will try to talk about as far as I concerned.

The hero in Beowulf significantly impressed emotions and and actions of the society. I think people took an example by Beowulf, and they directed their life according to the hero’s behaviours. On the other hand, Beowulf was more impressed by the society when it is regarded. For example, the hero is male because in that times, women were in the background I think, and I guess people believe that ordinary people would not be hero, hero should have been highborn.

As a result, we cannot know thoughts of authors when writing it, but we can deduce from it. I think we shouldn’t criticizegreat Works like this in a negative way, they all are a masterpiece.

When literature is considered, beauty comes to my mind. I mean, literature and beauty not truth are related. Literature should be very rich by means of emotions, and it should reveal our feelings.

People should be effected when a poet is read. Literature can change someone’s life, and learn examining something in an different way. I think literature means creativity, it requires that. A writer can use words such an interesting way that each reader infer a differeent meaning from them. Also some people are interested in literature to have fun, I really appreciated them.One who loved literature really enjoy it.

Studying literature in another language is very different, it means you learn its culture,too. It is something exciting, because you discover different artists and works or masterpieces. Because works are under the fluence of  historical period, we can also learn history by means of them, it is an another aspect of literature.

Geoffrey Chaucer who is writer of The Canterbury  Tales must have had some education in Latin and Greek, but it is not known much. His gaining the knowledge of society made it possible to write The Canterbury Tales. Geoffrey Chaucer wrote The Canterbury Tales as a collection of stories in a frame story, between 1387 and 1400.

The Canterbury Tales is written in Middle English  by Geoffrey Chaucer at the end of the 14th century. It was time of The Hundred Years’ War.. The tales are the story-telling about a group of pilgrims that travel from Southwark  to the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket at Canterbury Cathedral. The Wife of Bath and The Friar are two of the most important characteristics.. The tales and the descriptions of its characters demonstrate an important side of English society ,the time, and especially the church. It is structurally similar to The Decameron, which Chaucer read during his first diplomatic duty to Italy in 1372.

If we rely on  the general prologue, Chaucer aimed that each pilgrim should tell two tales on the way to Canterbury and two tales when returning. He never finished his big project and even the completed tales were not finally revised. Scholars are not certain about the order of the tales. As the printing press had yet to be invented when Chaucer wrote his works, The Canterbury Tales has been passed down in several handwritten works. The Canterbury Tales is considered one of the greatest works produced in Middle English. The Canterbury Tales was Chaucer's masterpiece.

Actually I am in bad with literature because I am not good at writing, but I think I'll like it by means of the course of English Literature I. I respect all of people that leaved a trace in this area like Shakespeare, they have created the great works, but the way our teacher use to refer literature to us is partially wrong. They show the literature as a monster to me and I am afraid of it. It is always limited to as a course so we didn't take it seriously.
I'll come to course while I am hoping that I am really informed about English Literature
